Video Project
Project Description
For this project we had to create a short film, and incorporate things like different types of lighting, filming, stop motion, sound, and editing skills. To begin, I had started with many different ideas, but I didn't really see any of them going anywhere. Then, with some help, I developed a plan that I thought would work. I couldn't film yet, though so during class time I spent it thoroughly planning exactly how I was going to make it. Through this, I realized it would take much more refining to make it work and actually accomplish, and decided to write a script, including the camera angles, lighting, and music. Then, once I was ready to film, it was easier since I knew what I was doing. The people who I was working with did not, however. So, while I was actually filming, I was also directing them out loud. This is why it had to be a silent movie. It took a while to edit it together, because the main character turned out to be a flash animation. Meaning I had to figure out how to use Flash. It took a while, but I eventually got it done and put together.

Project Reflection-
1. Why do artists produce preliminary plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
Artists produce preliminary plans because it is good to know what you are doing in advance, and there are more opportunities to make it better.
2. What problem solving skills are employed in making works of art?
Problem solving skills are employed in making works of art because most of the time something will go wrong, and it will not be exactly how you planned it, so you have to problem solve to complete it.
3. How does material culture influence artistic decisions?
Material culture influences decisions because art is a very good way to get points across, which is common in forms such as political cartoons, movies, advertisements, etc.
4. How is art used in everyday life?
Art is used in everyday life with things such as movies, TV, advertisements, computer graphics, so it's pretty much everywhere, since everything is designed with art.
5. What is old, and what is new in any work of art?
Art is an extremely old concept, going back to cavemen times, so any art will have old elements, however there are new ways of art being created all the time, such as digital artworks.

Prehistoric Art History Drawings
- Project Description
I started this project with learning about art history, and about the first humans on the earth. They drew on caves mostly, and didn’t have a lot of spare time for it. So for this project we drew something that related to prehistoric times. I used a variety of pencils, some thick, some thin, and some drew darker than others. I mostly used these for shading, which was useful because I normally am not good at shading. To publish the drawings, I used Adobe Illustrator to live trace the image. This means basically to convert a drawing from paper into a digital drawing. This is one of the best ways to put artwork on the internet, which will be very useful in the future, such as putting projects onto my digital portfolio or another website.
Teacher Creature Project
Project Reflection In this project, the Teacher Creature project, we were supposed to photoshop one (or more) of our teachers into an animal or any other object that we could think of. To do that, we had to feather edges, blend colors, change textures, and find several other images to include and add to the overall effect. For my project, I decided to turn Hannah Starbuck into a Starbucks coffee,as a bit of a pun. This proved a bit more of a challenge than I had originally thought it would, as I had to somehow make her face blend in with the Starbucks logo, and look animated, or at least more like a cartoon. The most difficult part of this process was thinking of new ideas to include. I needed a lot of pictures in the finished version and I wasn’t feeling very inspired during this project. I eventually decided to just go with my instinct and use the first thought that I had, as it was already not a bad idea. During these couple weeks, we watched Youtube tutorials to learn new skills in Photoshop such as changing hair color, changing eye color, changing texture, and more. I enjoyed this more than the rest because it would be actually useful in my life, and it was interesting and fun to learn. Through this project, I found that I am a fast learner, and can pick up new Photoshop skills fairly easily. The Youtube tutorials were easy for me to follow, and I used the skills to create the end result. I’m satisfied with how my project turned out.

Youtube Tutorials:
- I used the pen selection tool and modified the hue/saturation, making it purple.
- I used the warping tool to stretch the teeth into fangs
- I changed the hair color with a soft paint brush
- I overlapped the dirt onto the girl, softened it, and refined it.
Landscape Project:
- When I made this project, I learned a lot about scale and proportion, such as the difference between the foreground, the middle ground, and the background. The foreground is the largest, and the colors most vibrant and detailed. There's lots of texture and contrast, and it's very clear to see. The middle ground is less vibrant in color, and the details are less eye catching. Large objects appear smaller than if they had been in the foreground. The background is much less detailed. There's more particles in the air between the camera and the objects in the background, so everything is harder to see. The objects all blur together, and there is little to no contrast. During this project, I also learned how to photo shop an image into another image. You have to refine the edge before anything else, and you have to try to make it look real, by matching the colors somewhat. This was a fun project.
Name Project:
- I made this project by taking photos of nature that resembled letters of my name. I completed it with minimal editing such as blurring, and I had fun with the background.
