Tessellation Project
Written Response
It is the month of October, so the theme I chose for my tessellation is ghosts. I like halloween, so I thought this would be a fun idea. I started with a square, and cut a round curve out of the bottom. I taped it on the top of the square. Then I cut an arm out of the left side, and taped it onto the right.
I think that tessellations are both math and art, and not one or the other. In an essay written by M.C. Escher, he said, “For me it remains an open question whether the play of white and black figures as shown in the six woodcuts of this book pertains to the realm of mathematics or to that of art.” It’s stated pretty clearly here that it is not set in stone, it could be either. I think that it is in the opinion of the creator.
